A new independent magazine
COMING
SOON.
The first issue is in preparation.
A new independent magazine about power, culture, and the people who live with the consequences.
Read our editorial briefReporting. Culture. Argument.
A place for difficult questions and substantial answers.
Reporting. Follow the record. Find the people living with the consequences. Ask what the official version leaves out.
Culture. Argument. Look closely at the work. Make the case. Give the reader something worth staying with.
The territory
Three forms. One obligation: make it worth reading.
Follow the
consequences.
Institutions, money, decisions, and the lives they alter. Start in a place. Find the records. Stay for the answer.
Look harder.
Have an argument.
Books, art, performances, and public rituals. Close attention to the work itself, with room for disagreement.
Ask the
second question.
People who know the work from the inside. Interviews that keep going when the prepared remarks run out.
The editorial standard
The writing should have a pulse.
The facts should hold.
A sharp sentence has to survive a dull question: how do we know? Our standards begin with evidence, fair hearing, clear attribution, and visible corrections.
How we intend to workThe first issue
Earn the next one.
We begin with a manageable issue: a reported feature, a cultural essay, and a conversation. The work will appear here when it is ready.
